Marvel Travels to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

I just started reading Marvel’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz series. I picked up the first issue at our local comic shop, Bonanza Comics in Modesto Ca, for my daughter last week. I read it to her last night before bed. I’m glade I got it for her. For one it’s a wonderfully drawn book. The art work is beautiful. Another thing about it is that it follows the book fairly well. I might be the only person in the world that doesn’t care for the Judy Garland Wizard of Oz. As a kid I guess I liked it, but then I saw The Return to Oz and the way I look at Oz has never been the same.

The Marvel Oz seems like a living world. It’s not cheap sets and shitty costumes. Dorthy looks like a little girl, not a grown woman in pigtails. The first issue leads up to Dorthy meeting the Scarecrow. I believe they’re up to issue 4 or 5 now. I’ll be sure to pick up the next few issues when I head to Bonanza tomorrow for New Comic Wednesday.
